Summary

More prescription drugs for chronic conditions get one prior authorization a year.

The bill expands an existing Texas rule that limits health insurers to one prior authorization per year for certain prescription drugs. Right now that limit covers drugs for autoimmune diseases and certain blood disorders, and the bill widens it to any drug prescribed for a chronic health condition, defined as a condition expected to last at least a year that needs ongoing care or limits daily activities. Patients with long-term conditions on plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026 would face at most one yearly approval hurdle from their insurer for those drugs.
