relating to instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation in public schools.

Summary

Hands-on practice becomes required for all CPR instruction.

The bill rewrites the state rule for CPR lessons in public schools so that the training must cover both CPR techniques and how to use an automated external defibrillator. It also makes hands-on skills practice a requirement for all CPR instruction, not just for courses built from national guidelines. It touches school districts and students starting in the 2025-2026 school year, and the course must still come from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or national evidence-based guidelines.

THE TEXT

“by the American Heart Association or the American”…

Bill text, introduced version (I)

The statute names two specific private organizations as approved sources for the curriculum. The bill leaves the nationally recognized, evidence-based guidelines option open, so this is a minor instance that keeps existing law.
