relating to a credit against required recapture payments for certain school districts for the cost of windstorm and hail insurance under the public school finance system.

Caption from analyzed text · version I.

Summary

Windstorm and hail costs come off what goes to the state.

The bill lets certain school districts subtract what they spent last year on windstorm and hail insurance from the recapture money they must send to the state under the school finance system. It applies only to districts located in first tier or second tier coastal counties as the Insurance Code defines them. Those coastal districts would keep more of their local tax money, and less would flow back into the state's recapture system, starting September 1, 2025.

AN ACT

relating to a credit against required recapture payments for

certain school districts for the cost of windstorm and hail

insurance under the public school finance system.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

windstorm and hail insurance.

(c) A reduction under Subsection (b) shall be made after

making any reduction to which the district is entitled under

Section 49.157 or another provision of this chapter.

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
