Summary

Felony convictions or deferred adjudication keep you off police and fire oversight boards.

The bill bars anyone convicted of a felony, placed on deferred adjudication for a felony, or convicted of a crime of moral turpitude from serving on a city civilian oversight board for police or fire departments. It also defines a civilian oversight board as a city board or office where members of the public who are not police or fire fighters oversee, monitor, or investigate those officers or departments. Cities covered by the fire and police civil service chapter would have to keep people with those records off these boards starting immediately or on September 1, 2025.
