Summary

Including federal SSI, with the department’s help.

The bill lets a relative or other designated caregiver who takes in a child placed by the state child welfare department receive that child's support payments and benefits. The department must help move the child's support rights to that caregiver and help name the caregiver as the payee for the child's benefits, including federal SSI. Instead of the state keeping a placed child's support money, it can flow to the kin caregiver raising the child, starting September 1, 2025.
