Summary

A new category joins the list of charities skipping property taxes.

The bill adds a new category to the list of charities that can skip property taxes: groups that provide financial support for medical care at certain universities listed in a section of the Education Code. Charities in that new category can claim the exemption on buildings and property they own and use for charity, and also on certain mineral and royalty interests. The change starts with tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2026, so local taxing units would collect less tax from these qualifying groups.
