relating to prohibiting the use of electric resistance as a primary heat source in certain residential buildings.

Caption from analyzed text · version I.

Summary

Only as the main heat source, and only on jobs agreed from January 1, 2026.

The bill bans electric resistance heating, the kind used in baseboard heaters and electric furnaces, as the main heat source in homes larger than 500 square feet. It applies to residential construction, remodeling, alteration, enlargement, or repair that begins under an agreement made on or after January 1, 2026, and exempts homes cooled with chilled water. Builders and homeowners on covered projects would need a different main heat source, and cities must set rules to carry this out by December 1, 2025.
