Summary

Penalty notices and settlement comment periods go to the local legislators.

The bill requires the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to notify the local state representative and state senator when it gives notice of a penalty or opens public comment on a proposed enforcement settlement. It touches the commission and the legislators who represent the area where an environmental violation occurred. Lawmakers will now get direct word of penalties and settlements in their districts, on top of the existing Texas Register publication.
