relating to employer contributions for retirees of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas who resume certain employment with a public school.

Caption from analyzed text · version I.

Summary

Pay only the excess over normal cost, or nothing.

The bill lowers what a public school must pay into the Teacher Retirement System when it rehires a retired teacher or other retiree. Instead of paying the full member and state contribution amounts, the school pays only the amount by which those combined rates exceed the system's estimated normal cost, and pays nothing if the normal cost is higher. Schools that rehire retirees pay less starting with the 2025-2026 school year, and the retirement fund collects less from those rehires.
