Summary

Over 250,000 people? The court can make the agent an employee.

In counties with more than 250,000 people, the bill lets the commissioners court vote to abolish the existing county purchasing agent office set up under Section 262.011 and instead hire a purchasing agent as an employee under Section 262.0115. It touches county commissioners courts, current purchasing agents in those larger counties, and the county's buying process. On the ground, the sitting purchasing agent's term ends on the date the order sets, and that person may be rehired under the new arrangement.
