Summary

Same for a stated gender identity, sexual orientation or preferred name, legally changed or not.

The bill adds a section to the Family Code saying that a parent, guardian or caregiver who refuses to affirm a child's stated sexual orientation or gender identity is not committing abuse or neglect under that chapter. The same goes for refusing to use a child's preferred name or pronouns, whether or not the child has legally changed their name. Child-welfare abuse and neglect cases cannot rest on those refusals starting September 1, 2025.
