Summary

Judges join peace officers and servicemembers. The school board must grant it.

The bill merges two versions of a school transfer law and adds state and federal judges in Texas to the list of parents who can demand that their child be moved to another campus or district. Peace officers, military servicemembers and now judges can pick the campus or district, and the school board must grant the transfer. Districts still do not have to provide busing, and the change applies starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
