Summary

Peace officers and servicemembers already had it. Judges join the list.

The bill merges two existing school transfer rules for children of peace officers and servicemembers into one section and adds judges and justices of state or federal courts in Texas to the list. On a parent's request, a school board or its designee must transfer the student to the district campus or other district the parent picks, under a transfer agreement. Districts still do not have to provide transportation, and the change applies starting with the 2025-2026 school year.

THE TEXT

“a judge or justice of a state or federal court in this state”

Bill text, introduced version (I)

The bill adds one specific job class, judges, to a guaranteed school-transfer right that other parents do not get. The caption honestly says "certain public servants," so this is a disclosed and narrow favor.
