Summary

A personal reentry plan for each offender with developmental disabilities.

The bill renames the state prison system's program for people with developmental disabilities and orders the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to find community resources and write a personal reentry plan for each of these offenders. It touches inmates with intellectual or developmental disabilities and the prison agency that releases them, and it lets the agency take gifts and grants to pay for the services. On the ground, these inmates get planning help with treatment, housing and other transition needs, but state money cannot pay for housing for those serving time for the serious offenses listed in Section 508.149(a).
