Summary
Nurses, coaches, band directors and student athletic trainers included.
The bill requires school nurses, coaches, PE teachers, band directors, cheerleading coaches, other employees named by the commissioner, and student athletic trainers to get and keep CPR and defibrillator certification from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or a similar national group. It also drops the old limit that covered only private schools that got a defibrillator or defibrillator money from the state, so every private school and open-enrollment charter school must adopt a CPR and defibrillator training policy. Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, more school staff must hold current certification, and private and charter schools must offer the training whether or not they took state equipment.
