Summary

Through the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or similar.

The bill requires school nurses, coaches, band directors, PE teachers, cheer coaches, student athletic trainers and other employees named by the commissioner to get and keep CPR and AED certification from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or a similar national group. It removes the old limit that applied the private-school CPR policy rule only to private schools that got a defibrillator or defibrillator money from the state, and it adds open-enrollment charter schools to that rule. Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, every private school and charter school must offer CPR and AED training to staff and volunteers under a policy that meets the same certification rules as public schools.
